Intel reported stronger-than-expected first-quarter revenue as clients stockpiled processors ahead of potential tariffs, offsetting warnings of a weak June quarter. The chipmaker’s product chief noted heightened demand for older-generation parts in both client and data center segments, attributing the trend to macroeconomic uncertainty and trade tensions.

While current U.S. tariffs exclude semiconductors, China’s proposed retaliatory measures threaten to impose duties exceeding 85% on American-made chips. This looming trade war has prompted buyers across Intel’s largest market to build inventory buffers, creating unusual demand patterns in the semiconductor supply chain.
